The camp has relocated several times during its long history but has now settled in what is no doubt its most spectacular location. Our latest visit to this camp, June 2009, was impressive and showed genuine improvements in the last two years.

The public areas which consist of a large, authentically furnished, canvas lounge and dining tent, a "library" tent,  and a fire place, have all been set slightly apart to give a different feel to each area of the camp and pleasant sense of space.

The camp manager, Simon, has a wonderful team of friendly and competant camp staff and guides who go out of their way to provide excellent service and in-depth knowledge of this game viewing area.

The 8 private tents are very spacious with wonderfuly comfortable beds. The bathroom works well with a chemical toilet and a "bladder" shower.  The “outside” style of the bathroom with the hard shell walls is a good combination of nature & security.

Whilst most visitors to Tarangire stay for 1 or 2 nights we think Oliver’s should start to be recognised as a “destination” camp with longer 4-5 night stays a genuine option. The new location makes time spent in the camp very rewarding whilst the walking safari options with or without the fly-camping are the best in northern Tanzania.

The game viewing is so often underestimated with excellent drives, particularly along the Silale Swamp. We saw a heard of over 100 elephants, cheetah, lion when just driving away from the camp. And where are the other people?... all fighting it out in the Serengeti!
