Dar Es Salaam
Dar Es Salaam (Dar) is Tanzania's largest city, - the commercial and social centre of the country with a lively and bustling character. Most international travellers fly in and out of Dar so when necessary, an overnight stay may be required for which there is a choice of good quality hotels.
We've checked out just about every hotel and guesthouse and the best two options are Dar Southern Sun and Kempinski Hotel.
If travelling to/from Zanzibar, we recommend heading straight to either Stone Town or direct to your lodge. The flight is a very short hop add there are several internal flights a day. The journey time into Dar can sometimes be very long and tedious so we recommend avoiding it if you can.
(By the way, Dar es Salaam, whilst being the largest city in Tanzania, is not the capital. The capital is Dodoma, right in the centre of the country).
