Olduvai Camp has a scenic location with panoramic views of the Ngorongoro Highlands and southern Serengeti plains.
A good base between January and March when the wildebeest migration is within the vicinity. However as soon as the herds have moved on the whole area becomes extremely dry, dusty and baron with very little or no game which may leave you wondering why you are here.
The camp is managed and run by Massai which is what gives it it's own unique character and atmosphere. Standards at this camp are quite rudimentary, particularly the food, but the natural warmth and hospitality of your hosts is infectious.
There are 20 small basic tents which circumnavigate the cental rock kopjes with simple and adequate furnishings. The ensuite bathroom is at the back of the tent and includes a small "bladder" shower (on request) and a chemical toilet. There is no running water so a jug and bowl for washing are provided at the front of the tent.
The main dining and bar area are makuti thatched buildings set within the rocks alongside a fire pit which is a pleasant area to sit and chat with the local Maasai who tend to pass through the camp at random.
