Only here can you relax in an extravagant suite with brocade sofas, gilt mirrors, beaded chandeliers and panelled walls with one of the most stunning landscapes and big game viewing arenas right below you.

The lodge is divided into three camps - North, South and Tree Camp - which helps to maintain a smaller and more intimate feel. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers to provide you with everything you need.

The sitting areas reflect a stately home with brocade sofas, persian rugs and huge mirrors hung above an open fire. The domed dining rooms are also extravagant with teak pannelling, lavish silver and crystal chandeliers.

The rooms are huge and luxurious - an eclectic blend of teak panelling, Victorian furnishings and whimsical African touches. Leather chairs recline in front of the fireplace and raw silk curtains screen a private veranda. Even the gigantic bathtub is set under a hand-beaded chandelier.

Crater Lodge is truly memorable and wonderfully indulgent and we have had a real blast when visiting. Whilst critics will say it's not a genuine Africa experience you would have to be pretty miserable not to really enjoy it!
