Sossusvlei Desert Lodge has ten luxurious and spacious stone and glass villas with a very modern minimalist design that echoes the stark elegance of the surrounding desert.

Each air conditioned suite has a private veranda, split level sitting area with fireplace, star-viewing window above the bed, ensuite glass-encased bathroom with shower and an outdoor shower. The contemporary style throughout is very impressive and pleasing.

The split-level main lodge is an ensemble of glass and stone curves with huge windows maximising the fantastic desertscape. There are quiet hideaways, viewing decks, a bar, fireplace, dining room, main sitting room and terrace, mezzanine library with viewing deck, rim-flow swimming pool and lodge planetrium.

Activities include scenic drives in 4x4 open safari vehicles to the NamibRand Nature Reserve and in closed air-conditioned vehicle excursions to Sossusvlei and the Sesriem Canyon (approximately 6-hour round trip).  There are also guided nature walks and marked hiking trails.

Alternatively, guided quad-bike excursions in the dunes can be arranged from the lodge, or try hot air ballooning over the Namib Desert.

Every evening resident astronomers give fascinating and fun presentations on the stars and constellations in the southern African sky at the lodge's specially designed observatory which has a very powerful telescope.

We visited this lodge again on a recent Namibia trip and the stunning location is always memorable. The hosting, guiding and service from all of the staff was excellent.
