Serra Cafema Camp is located on the banks of Kunene River, surrounded by the Namib Desert and with stunning mountain ranges dominating the skyline. This is one of the most remote and wonderfully surreal destinations in all Africa.

Serra Cafema Camp has 8 luxurious canvas and thatched chalets on spacious decks, each with its own ensuite bathroom encompassing an indoor and outdoor shower.

The main area comprises indoor and outdoor dining areas, sunken lounge, river bar, library, curio shop and swimming pool, all looking out over the Kunene River. Attention to detail, elevated decks and simple structures of wood, canvas and thatch create a camp that blends beautifully into the environment.

The variety of activities to explore the breathtaking landscape includes informative nature drives that tread lightly on the fragile habitats, and boating on the Kunene River where crocodiles and waterbirds seem out of place in this moonscape environment.

Walking in the remote mountain and river valleys are also a highlight, as is a visit to a Himba settlement, should the nomadic people be in the area.

Great fun and a real highlight are the quad bike excursions through the sea of dunes; these excursions allow guests to experience the true desert whilst taking care not to damage the pristine environment.

Our most recent visit to Serra Cafema in November 2008 was fabulous. The stunning scenery, quad biking, boat trips and Himba interaction were all truly memorable.  It's one of those amazing places that you dream about when you get home.
