Okonjima Main Lodge is a really good value and friendly lodge with 16 rooms.  An excellent base for visiting the Africat Foundation.

There are 6 double, en suite rooms overlooking a lush garden and open-fire area.  Each room has double or twin beds, a roof-fan and a private, lockable safe. The rooms are close to the main building (dining room and bar), curio-shop, swimming pool and reception area.

The 10 Bush / Mountain view rooms overlook the natural Okonjima bush-veldt and are set a little further away from the main building.  The spacious bedrooms which have a view and reading nook, are also en suite but have twin basins and a larger shower.  Each room has 2 double beds, a mini-fridge to store your own drinks, a roof-fan, a safe & alarm-system, a telephone to call reception if you need to.

The lodge also has a secluded swimming pool within the beautiful gardens and a small curio shop.

Actvities are based around the Africat Foundation.  Africat is a non-profit organisation set up to conserve and protect threatened cheetah, leopard, and other wild cats of Namibia. You will be able to observe some of this programme at work and learn more about these amazing and beautiful animals.

On our last trip (Nov 2008) we successfuly tracked two leopards, enjoyed close interaction with some of the cheetahs and saw lions and wilddog from very close quarters.

Okonjima has also set up a bushman trail where you can not only learn the art of making traditional artefacts but how the San adapt and survive in an unforgiving wilderness environment.

We tend to recommend Okonjima Main Lodge for a couple of nights at the beginning or end of a self-drive trip. The whole Lodge has a good fun feel and it is fascinating to see and learn about the different cats.
