In March 2009, the first rate Kwando Safaris, opened Tau Pan Camp, the first permanant camp in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
Situated on an established sand ridge overlooking Tau Pan the camp commands stunning views of a permanent water hole and the endless Kalahari horizon.
Guests are accommodated in 8 custom-built desert rooms under thatch. All rooms are solar powered with fans, outside showers and a private viewing deck.
The main building area consists of dining room, lounge area and a viewing deck. The food produced by the chef, Geoffrey, is really outstanding and he add lots of small touches to make it special.
The camp also offers facilities such as swimming pool, interpretation centre/library and curio shop.
Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and contrary to expectation the game viewing is veried and interesting. The quality of the guiding is outstanding with rave reviews from all visitors. There are also guided Walks with the San tribes people who will explain and entertain you by explaining their culture and survival lifestyle.
Tau Pan Camp is in a beautiful location - pictures really don't do it justice, and it is very interesting for visitors to experience a different part of Botswana. There is an incredible sense of space and remoteness and is definitely for people who want to experience the Kalahari and see some different game, birds and vegetation. It is not for people who need to see the vast quantities of large mammals at very close range which they will find in the Okavango Delta and Kwando concession.
Although not the first place on everyone's list when planning a trip to Botswana the feedback we have had from customers is one of excitement and joy at taking the time to visit this wonderful place.
