Resting peacefully on the banks of the Zambezi River, under a grove of evergreen Mahogany trees, Chiawa Camp holds a prime position in the heart of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park.

This family-owned and run camp has an excellent reputation for its rustic and unpretentious style which goes hand in hand with its high quality guiding and hosting.

Constructed mainly of natural materials the whole camp blends in effortlessly with its idyllic surroundings.

The main thatched lounge/bar area is double storey with an upstairs viewing deck providing views of the Zambezi. Furnished with comfortable sofas and soft cushions where you can relax there is a small library and natural history display table to make the whole place feel very authentic . Meals are served in a seperate open-sided thatched dining area also overlooking the river

There are nine spacious "Meru" style tents with large double bed, ceiling and table fan, electricity, Egyptian cotton linens with en-suite bathrooms each with island roll-top bath, his & hers washbasins, and indoor & outdoor showers. Each tent has excellent views and are accessed by paths running behind them to maximise privacy.

The camp also offers a refreshing plunge pool, complete with sundeck, which is perfect for cooling off during the heat of the day.

Chiawa Camps offers the full range of activities: Day and night game drives, walking safaris, canoeing, boat safaris and fishing (both fly and conventional tackle). The guides at Chiawa are very experienced and knowledgable and always receive great reviews.

We visited this camp in October 2009 which backed up what we already knew that this is one of the best camps in Zambia.
