Nairobi

The gateway to safari in Kenya and a central hub for many eastern African airlines. Only really worth a night’s stop over at the beginning and/or end of your trip.

Nairobi is a typical African city but suffers a bad repuation for heavy traffic, sprawling slums, robbery and more recently terrorist rumblings.  However, you can avoid these areas and stay in one of many the lovely little hotels in the beautiful suburbs of the capital.

If you fancy a longer stay we would recommend a visit to the elephant sanctuary or giraffe centre, especially good for children.   The Nairobi National Park, seperating the international and domestic airports, could also be worth a visit and at the Ole Sereni Hotel, facing the park, you might be experience your first glimpse of wildlife.
