Azura Beach Lodge

Benguerra Island lies 14km north east of Vilanculos, the nearest town and site of the international airport.

The lodge has been rebuilt over the last year (re-opened in July 2009) after a tragic fire and the look and feel is better than ever.

The 14 villas blend modern chic with all that is traditional in Mozambique. The creature comforts you would expect from a luxury boutique resort are there, set off by locally sourced wooden beams and traditional artwork beneath a thatched jekka roof.  Each villa is just footsteps from the beach, yet each is designed with seclusion in mind being nestled amidst indigenous gardens with it's own deck and plunge pool.

The stylish bar and lounge area opens right out onto an outdoor deck overlooking the beach and sea.  Furnished with cool, contemporary cottons and the textures of Africa, everything is open to the breezes, in harmony with nature.  Comfortable, simple, spacious and chic.

The food is exquisite; the chef combines local ingredients with a contemporary approach and although he places the emphasis on fresh fish and seafood, all tastes are well covered. The lodge also offers a variety of special dining options including secluded beach picnics or romantic, candlelit, private, beach dinners at your villa.

The in-house 5* star PADI dive centre offers superb diving and snorkelling options.  There is also the Azura Spa located right on the beach and open to the breezes which makes for truly relaxing treatments.

Azura operates a state of the art 6 seater Eurocopter helicopter for the transfers from Vilanculos to Benguerra Island. The flying time is approx 10 minutes and will connect with any arriving/departing flight.  This should be booked at the same time as your accommodation. For those with an aversion to air travel, Azura will transfer you by speedboat on request and subject to availability.
