Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is situated in the foothills of the Virungas Mountains, very close to the headquarters of the Volcanoes National Park from where the mountain gorilla trecking is co-ordinated and operates.

Sitting at 2,100 meters, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge affords wonderful views of the volcanoes and the surrounding countryside within the national park.

Accommodation comprises five double cottages, two suites and one family suite.  All are stone buildings with terracotta tile roofs, and feature large sitting areas, fireplaces, stylish en suite bathrooms finished with Venetian plaster, a dressing room and a sheltered veranda.  Heat exchangers in the fireplaces provide a plentiful supply of hot water.

The main lodge building comprises reception, sitting room with snug area, dining room, library / games room, a responsible tourism / community awareness room, shop and bathrooms.  Three large fireplaces provide warmth and all rooms are finished with a polished wooden floor. Two patio areas provide wonderful and dramatic views to the Virunga Volcanoes and the surrounding lowland farmland.

Whilst the gorilla trekking is the primary activity, there are other things to do such as visiting the bustling local town of Ruhengeri, the beautiful lakes of Kivu, Burera, Ruhondo and Karago, the genocide memorials, or the community and conservation projects organised by SACOLA (lodge owners).  Trek into the forests to see troops of rare Golden Monkey or spend some time looking at Rwanda's abundance of different birdlife (over 650 species).

This is definitely the most "luxurious" lodge in the area and customer feedback has always been excellent.
