A safari&beach family holiday in either February or October half term is totally do-able. Travel out on Friday night and back on Saturday evening and you can have eight action packed days of fun and adventure. Travel from UK to Africa means no jet lag so you are on holiday as soon as you land. For those with an extended October half term, adding a couple of extra days on safari and a few more days on the beach is a great option.
This trip combines the wonders of Ngorongoro Crater and the open plans of the Serengeti with one of our favourite beach lodges at Pongwe in Zanzibar. You’ll have your own private driver/guide who will make this family holiday that little more special. Forget the social media, track the big five, swim in crystal blue waters and re-find your big family smile.
(This cost is approx 25% of a family of four)
You will be met off your international flight and taken straight out on your first day’s adventure. Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking Lake Manyara with plenty of hippo and flamingos plus the park’s tree climbing lion and plenty of other big game to get the adrenalin flowing.
Head to Rhotia Valley, a charming eco lodge with fantastic views across the Ngorongoro highlands. Actively involved in local charities, staying at this lodge will directly benefit the nearby children’s home and schools (where we can also arrange a visit).
After a good night’s sleep in your family tent, head out to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s natural wonders, where you will descend into the crater for an exciting day’s safari before returning back to lodge.
With an early start, head out past the Ngorongoro Conservation area, passing old Masai settlements, to the wide open plains of the Serengeti.
Arrive at Naona Moru for your two day’s luxury camping in the wild. You have the option of a family tent or two tents if your children are a little older. Enjoy day’s out on safari with breakfast in the bush, lunch on the bonnet or the most amazing sundowners. Enjoy chats round the campfire and excellent bush cuisine. However, with your own private guide you can plan your days as you wish to really enjoy that time together as a family.
With a short flight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar, the beach tag on to your family safari is very convenient. Leave your safari camp in the morning and arrive at Pongwe for a dip in the stunning turquoise sea by afternoon. This is one of our favourite beach lodges with a spacious family room or adjacent beach huts offering extremely comfortable accommodation. Spend your days snorkelling, diving, swimming or chilling on the hammocks on this stunning beach. You will love it here.
Your return journey home is pretty easy with international flights leaving StoneTown via Dar and Nairobi.
A family safari&beach holiday at half term is almost the perfect time to go. Flights are cheaper and camps are out of peak season so value is much greater than summer and Christmas holidays. Weather is perfect and in both February and October and game viewing is spectacular.
We'd recomend visiting Half Term Safari & Beach during the months in green.
